Another emergency case we took on is Mimi the kitten. She is about 4-5 months old. She was found in the courtyard of the school "Dimitar Blagoev", crying and dragging the back of her body. Initially we assumed that she had a broken pelvis, but after x-rays and a thorough examination at the veterinary clinic and the Promed office, it became clear that the kitten had been shot, as there were bullet marks. As a result, Mimi cannot walk on her own and a catheter was inserted. Despite her condition, she seeks human presence and closeness and her beautiful eyes are so sad. Mimi would not survive outside in this condition and despite her lack of physical and financial ability we took on this case as well.
W e took Mimi to a neurologist on the recommendation of our vets. His prognosis, after examination and x-rays, was that the kitten would not walk and needed constant care to live this way. Mimi is not able to walk on her own when she needs to, but she is eating and you can read in her eyes a great desire to live.
The cot has been placed in a foster home and while we hope for some miracle to happen with his condition we have found that the story is actually much crueler. If her shooter has a conscience three lives already weigh on her because at the time he wounded her Mimi was pregnant. During one of the discharges we felt something unnatural and immediately took her to the vet's office. The vets determined that she had started miscarrying at 6 weeks gestation. Surgical intervention was necessary.
Her life was saved, but what happened to Mimi at this tender age is truly cruel. She hardly did much to provoke the shooter, however his act deserves punishment.
We have booked Mimi in to see a specialist orthopaedic and neurologist in Varna in the hope that a second opinion will make a difference!
